Is orthodontic treatment uncomfortable?
With today’s modern technology, wearing braces is normally quite easy. After the braces are fitted, the teeth can be a little tender as the braces are beginning to move the teeth. This is quite normal and it may be necessary to eat softer foods for the first few days following their fitting, pain relief may also be needed. We adjust the braces at 6-10 weekly intervals and following these adjustment appointments, the teeth may also be a little tender, however after a short time it passes.
When to Seek an Orthodontic Assessment?
First of all, you do not require a written referral from your dentist. At Chandler Orthodontics, we work in conjunction with your dentist and during treatment you will need to continue regular check-ups with your dentist with a view to maintaining healthy teeth and gums. If you do not have a regular dentist, we can refer you to a practitioner in your area.
Early examination by an orthodontist can detect and evaluate any problems and plan the best treatment for you. Normally orthodontic treatment will begin after the last baby tooth has been shed which is normally around 12 years of age. It is a good idea to have an assessment prior to this as in some instances there may be some preliminary treatment that could simplify your treatment.
Orthodontic treatment is suitable for adolescents and adults of all ages. These days
many adults seek orthodontic treatment proving it’s “never too late” to start.
How Much Will It Cost?
You will be given a quotation at your orthodontic consultation if your are ready to commence with treatment. Costs do vary depending on the type and length of orthodontic treatment required. Payment plans and direct debit facilities are available. Full payment must be finalised by the time braces are removed.
How Long Does It Take?
All orthodontic treatments are different but generally treatment with full braces can take between 18 months and 3 years.
